Hi, my name is Ceema but my crafty alter ego is known as Woolninja. I am a social worker by day and crafter - turned - blogger the rest of the time. I live in Chinatown, NYC with my husband and cat.
I've loved crafting for as long as I can remember - I spent my summers off from grammar school weaving pot holders and making batik pillow cases with crayons and kool-aid dye. As a teen and young adult I leaned more heavily toward the "arts" side of arts and crafts, trying my hand at still life watercolors and pencil drawings. My love affair with the needle arts bloomed when I was in college. I lived across the street from the local library at the time, and they offered a free knitting 101 class that I participated in. All I remember from that class was the instructor telling us to "go through the window" and feeling completely lost because I saw no window and many windows in the yarn at the same time. That class sparked, rather than stifled, my interest in yarn arts, and with the help of a friend and a children's knitting book I was soon giving every man, woman, and child I came into contact with a gift of knitted goodness.
It was at this time that I was lucky enough to bring my passion for crafting into my workplace. I was able to start a craft night at the youth center I worked at, providing young moms the opportunity to interact with their children in a creative and constructive environment.
It was in graduate school that I discovered my passion for teaching knitting. I helped organize our school's SNB and with that came many newbie knitters. Everyone's worrying about their studies didn't allow for a lot of time to focus on knitting, but when we were able to get together it was a blast. I knew that I would someday become a Certified Knitting Instructor (something my friend who had helped me learn to knit all those years ago had been working on) and continue learning, teaching, and knitting.
I'm so happy that you have taken the time to stop by my blog and take a peek into my world. Please feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think!
